For some of my clients, it’s the place they’re first going to start putting down roots. For others, it’s where they’re growing a family. A few are downsizing, taking the equity they get from selling their larger home and using the extra money they have in their pockets each month to go on vacations, indulge in that boat they’ve always wanted or putting it away for the future. Some are finding their forever home – the place where they’ll retire and enjoy entertaining their friends and family. (I hear lots about having room for the grandkids to come and visit!)
Last year I had clients who moved into a multi-generation home. Mom and Dad and their brand-new baby girl share four walls, meals, and all the ups and downs with Grandma and Grandpa. For a while, the baby’s aunt and her fiancé will be there, too! Just imagine the memories that will be amplified by all that love! Of course, that’s not everyone’s ideal situation but for this family, it’s a tremendous opportunity to live in a fabulous house and stay connected.
My idea of a home?
Here’s a picture of my sons, Steve and Nate, when they were little. They are in the backyard of the Las Vegas house in which we lived for over 20 years. We had a lot of fun in that backyard. Barbecues, bouncy houses, birthday parties and Boy Scout meetings made the years fly by! The peach tree that you see behind them was a gift from my sister, Jenny, who got the tree to commemorate Nate’s birth. By the time we moved from the house, our home, that peach tree had produced bushels and bushels and bushels of fruit which we used to make peach cobbler, jam, pies, margaritas and daiquiris. And of course, at the right time of year, we had as many fresh peaches to share and eat as we wanted!
That home is part of our history.

Nate and Steve are grown now and have homes of their own. My circumstances changed and with that came changes in what I wanted from a home. The townhouse where I now live provides me with most everything my current lifestyle requires, including a terrific home office that has a beautiful view of the golf course and a hummingbird that visits outside the window daily in the spring. It’s comfortable and quiet. It’s home to me.
